Eligibility Scope of Practice

Last updated: October 2026

Who may register

DRT programs are intended for licensed healthcare professionals whose scope of practice includes manual therapy. These include doctors of chiropractic (DC), medical doctors (MD), doctors of osteopathic medicine (DO), physical therapists (PT), and other licensed professionals approved by DRT. Students enrolled in an accredited program that leads to one of these licenses may register for eligible courses with proof of enrollment. Individuals who do not hold a qualifying healthcare license, or who are not enrolled students as described above, are not eligible for hands-on seminars.

License verification

At registration you must provide your license type, number, issuing state or country, and expiration date. DRT may verify your license with the issuing board and may decline or cancel a registration that cannot be verified. If a refund is due because a registration is declined, it will be issued in full.

Manipulation under anesthesia (MUA)

Only licensed chiropractors may perform manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) on patients. Physical therapists and other attendees may learn the MUA material, including the STOMUA™ curriculum, but may not perform MUA on patients. Completing DRT coursework does not by itself qualify any chiropractor to perform MUA. Chiropractors must also meet all requirements of their jurisdiction, licensing board, facility, and malpractice insurer, which may include additional credentialing, facility privileges, and an anesthesia provider.

Your scope of practice

Scope of practice is set by law and differs by profession and jurisdiction. You are solely responsible for knowing and following the laws, regulations, and board rules that apply to you, and for using only the techniques you are legally authorized and competent to perform. Attending a DRT course, earning a certificate, or receiving DRT certification does not expand your legal scope of practice.

Acknowledgment

By checking the box at registration, you confirm that:

  • the license information you provided is true and current;
  • you understand that only licensed chiropractors may perform MUA on patients, and that PTs and other attendees may learn but not perform MUA on patients; and
  • you will practice only within your lawful scope and competence.
